School Reopening Letter

(Please note that this letter will be published under the School Closure tab on the Chestnut Park School website (http://www.chestnutparkschool.org/254/school-closure) and can be translated into other languages on this page by clicking ‘Select Language’.)

REMEMBER, YOUR CHILD MUST NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF:

• They have a temperature, a new cough or have a change in their sense of smell or taste

• They are in an 'extremely clinically vulnerable' health category

• They are living with anyone who is 'shielding’

Years 2, 3 and 4 - Bubbles of 15 children who have confirmed they will return to school

We have been reviewing the guidance that the government has been providing with regards to planning for reopening our school to certain year groups.

  • Our planning has been underpinned by two key principles:
The safety of our children, our students and our staff is paramount; this includes their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. All our decisions are led by the welfare of children and staff, guided by the latest advice from government, PHE and other scientific evidence. This has included risk assessing every individual member of staff.
  • We must continue to provide children and students with the best quality learning that we are able to, given the circumstances.

It is your decision as parents and carers as to whether or not you decide the time is right for your child(ren) to be in school.

For the next half term, the Government has stated that there will not be any penalties for parents and carers should they decide to keep their children at home. If you change your mind about this school place please do contact me on h.lewis@chestnutparkschool.org in order for the place to be offered to another child.

OUR PRIMARY CONCERN IS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND SCHOOL STAFF.

Our plans From Monday 29th June 2020

Unfortunately, the plans set out in this letter may be subject to change if we experience any staff shortages or changes in guidance from the Government.

Please note that:

  • Children CANNOT move between childcare key worker and class bubbles.
  • All class bubbles will have a maximum of 15 children in them and they will have no planned mixing between groups
  • Whilst we will take all measures possible to ensure social distancing, we will not be able to guarantee social distancing at all times, however, we will teach children how to try and maintain social distancing.
  • Classroom layouts have changed, with each child having their own desk (this will be particularly different for younger children who are used to free flow play or carpet times).
  • Learning in pairs or groups work will not be possible.
  • Children may see staff wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to deal with medical or sickness situations.
  • The use of education resources will be restricted and it will be cleaned more regularly.
  • Bubble class playtimes will be separate from other bubble classes.
  • Each class bubble will have a set of toilets they will not share with another bubble.
  • Bubble class teachers have their own toilets.
  • We have a one way system around the building to avoid any crossover between staff in the corridors.
  • The behaviour policy has been updated to reflect a return to school and measures we need   to take to ensure we do not mix staff between groups.
  • Our updated Behaviour Policy can be found on our website in the policies section under ‘Our School’
  • Government guidance advises only one form of childcare.

Before and After School Club remains closed until September at the earliest.

Lunch Arrangements

The children do not need to bring a packed lunch to school.

During the school day all children will be provided a school lunch which will be delivered directly to their classroom. To start with, we will provide a cold ‘picnic style’ lunch. We will review the possibility of providing a hot meal at a later date.  The children will eat their lunch in the class bubble.

Free School Meals

Currently, the school will provide free packed lunch meals for all children attending the class bubbles. This is subject to review at any time.

School Uniform, P.E. Kit and Personal Items

  • Children should wear school uniform where possible, however, we do require the children to be wearing clean uniform daily for hygiene purposes. We do appreciate this may be difficult for some parents and therefore, if unavoidable, the children will be permitted to wear their own ‘casual’ clothes.
  • They will have their own individual resources to use.
  • They should bring a water bottle with their name on.
  • If it is hot, they will need a sunhat and sun cream applied before they arrive at school.
  • If your child needs a coat because of the weather, please remove it before they enter the school.
  • The children will not need their PE kit.
  • They should not bring in their book bag or rucksack.

Travel and School Entrances/Exits

We would advise travel to school via walking where possible, rather than the use of public transport. Only one adult may drop off and collect a child from school.

A visual guide to demonstrate planned entrances and exits for children and parents/carers will be provided. Where you have chosen to use public transport, please follow government guidance.

Contact

It is vitally important that we have the most updated contact details for parents and carers. Please email enquiries@chestnutparkschool.org with any amended details.

Further general information and guidance for parents and carers regarding coronavirus is available here: http://www.glfschools.org/1168/coronavirus-covid-19.

Finally, we would like to clarify that the government has stated that there will be no penalties for parents and carers should they decide to keep their children at home.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
